Assigned to us by Solomon, we undertook the task of shedding light on the working conditions of immigrants in Greek strawberry fields. Our resulting brochure marries aesthetics with a profound narrative, inspired by botanical books from a different era. This influence is evident in our paper selection and choice of fonts.
The cover was made with Gmund Bier Bock a special paper that evokes the resonance of soil. This deliberate choice not only adds a tactile dimension but also amplifies the agricultural-botanical concept embedded within the brochure.
Our approach to image layout was to break the images into fragments or juxtaposing parts from different pictures as a poignant metaphor for the fractured reality immigrants often face - compelled to leave their homelands for unfamiliar territories. To ensure clarity, we crafted an image index, noting every page where images and their fragments unfold within the brochure.
Moreover, within the folds of the brochure, we strategically incorporated three-fold and four-fold pages to underscore the significance of critical images, creating an immersive experience that emphasises key visuals.
In crafting this brochure, our intention was to provide not just information but a visual and tactile experience that prompts reflection and understanding. The empathy woven into the design aims to resonate with the audience, fostering awareness and compassion for the challenges faced by immigrants working in the Greek strawberry fields.
