The main objective in designing the Ikon Living website, beyond the aesthetic approach, was to make it easy to use both for the site administrators and for the visitors, who fall into two categories: professionals in the field—such as architects and interior designers—and private individuals.
For the professionals, we built a mechanism that allows the administrator, with a simple drag-and-drop, to upload images into a gallery field with varying sizes and orientations (portrait or landscape). This significantly reduces data entry time and, at the same time, creates an engaging pattern with the products.
Visitors can navigate through a dynamic website whose main feature is white space, functioning like a gallery that seamlessly presents its exhibits. The overall aesthetic is complemented by a custom typeface we designed for the company’s identity in two languages. Its key source of inspiration was the traditional mortise-and-tenon wood joint used in furniture making, creating a consistent visual language across all of the company’s media.
Finally, another important design element was the option to switch product display from thumbnails to list view, effectively turning the page into an online catalog. This way, professionals who use the website on a daily basis can instantly find the product they are looking for, effortlessly.
