N-Ost team wanted a website where they could archive studies, articles conference material on climate data in Central Asian countries. Their goal was to organise all the data that was scattered on the internet, on remote servers or private computers and to make it accessible through a website, so that they could look for information, or be informed about developments and finally not lose valuable data.

During the design research, we noticed that the meteorological maps, in addition to the scientific interest they also bring great material for the designers.
Starting from the home page, we adopted the crosses used as geographical indications, to form a set of points that are magnetised and oriented by the cursors position. The data titles are lined up in a list following the logic of Excel documents, and this is because we realised the immediacy and familiarity of users in this methodology. Each title is accompanied by an arrow that reveals the existence of an internal page with the development of the data. These arrows are a direct reference to the arrows on meteorological maps that indicate the direction of the air masses which they are also following the cursor.

Navigating the website is very simple with basic rules, easy for the user, while as an additional help the scrollbar is designed with horizontal parallel lines, borrowed from the thermometers, which show where on the site the user is.

Finally, wanting to remind each user that for their slightest movement, there is an impact on our planet (carbon footprint) with every click that makes within the website they leave a mark in the background. In colour and schematics forĀ  the "imprint" we drew inspiration from the thermal maps of meteorologists (temperature maps).
